A Special Report from Germany.
Are you ready for a linguistic challenge? Planet Deutsch welcomes guest writer Jens Hampe, a lawyer from Braunschweig, Germany, who has written a war commentary in German just for our readers. His story, Aus alten Europa, appears in the Lesesaal. Jens was an exchange student at Parkview High School in Little Rock, so he is an honorary Arkansan and "older" son to Frau Bowles.
Gute Reise!
Twelve German aficionados made the trip to Altus on Saturday for the tour and dinner. It was a "heiter Tag," perfect for a leisurely drive through the heart of Arkansas. We found out that the winery was founded by a Swiss German in the mid-1800s and that it was given special permission by the federal government to continue to produce its products for communion and medicinal purposes during Prohibition. Most of us had the German sausage platter, but the Wienerschnitzel and Back Hendel were also popular.
Der Deutsche Verein
Has New Officers.
Congratulations to the new officers for Der Deutsche Verein: President David "Brody" Morledge, Vice-President Lucindy Leland, and Secretary-Treasurer April Guy. Thanks to these hard-working, dedicated German students for helping out with next year's club.
German Club Page
