Did you know that Sandra Bullock, the Hollywood actress, speaks German? Former USA President Bill Clinton and his daughter Chelsea have also studied this intriguing language.
According to the Goethe Instiute, 56 college and university degree majors require or recommend German as opposed to 43 in French, 21 in Spanish, and seven in Japanese. These majors include anatomy, art history, biology, chemistry, music, philosophy, physics, religious studies, and zoology.

One of my personal favorite German immigrants was responsible for creating the most practical icon of USA culture, Levi Strauss. In fact, you're probably wearing a pair right now. Other notable Germans who have helped shape USA history include General Wilhelm von Steuben, who fought for American independence, and August Roehling, who designed the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City.
