April 2004
Ende gut, alles gut.
Goodbye spring break. What a wonderful week it was, too. The weather was perfect, the company outstanding, and the news incredible. Your German teacher, Frau Freddie Bowles, has been awarded the Doctoral Academy Fellowship in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Arkansas. I begin my studies this fall, so I will relinquish the role of teacher and wear the mantel of student for the next three years. Along with the excitement and anticipation come the nostalgia and sadness of saying goodbye to you, dear students, who have enriched and challenged me as a person and instructor. Without you I would not have had the experience and motivation to pursue a doctorate. Thank you. Danke. Merci. Gracias. Koszanom.
Der deutsche Verein.
Vielen Dank, Aleksandra! The presentation about the Wine Route was ausgezeichnet! The trip to Wiederkehr will be that much more impressive with our new knowledge of the fruit of the vine.
The next German Club meeting is on Tuesday, April 13, during x-period in Irby 204. Officers for 2004-05 will be elected and we will make our final plans for the trip to Altus.
Another Study Group.
Mario Marcuri in German 1310 has organized another study group for Wednesdays at 12:30 in the library. Check out the study room roster to see where the group will meet each time. Thanks, Mario. And don't forget that Brady and Lindsey are still meeting on Thursdays at 5:30 in the library. Take advantage of the opportunity to practice your German.
Ein Bauernregel
Another Farmer's Rule.
Judith gets the extra point! Judith Kneiling in German 1310 was the first person to send me an E-mail with the Farmer's Rule translated; however, several other students replied with similar answers. Thanks to Amber and Gayla for their translations, too.
Ein feuchter März ist des Bauern Schmerz.
A wet/damp March is painful for the farmer.
