Studenten und Studentinnen!
Wir beginnen Kapitel Eins! We are beginning Chapter One. I understand that it's not been an easy journey up until this point. You've had to memorize a lot of vocabulary and try to figure out how to remember the special expressions that make German unique.
Learning a language is like learning a sport or playing an instrument. Do you remember how frustrating it was to learn the fundamentals of dribbling a basketball or the fingering of the scales on a piano? You had to practice until it became body memory. Learning a second language is a similar experience. You have to listen to the CDs and repeat the dialogues and pronunciation exercises a lot. I require using the Language Lab because the environment is important. It's easier to learn piano scales when you have a real keyboard! It's easier to practice German when you are in the lab.
You should already keep a vocabulary journal. Write down the word and it's meaning. Write the original sentence where you read or heard the word. Then create a sentence of your own. In Kapitel Eins, you will learn vocabulary for family members and for the names of countries and nationalities. Why don't you make labels and stick them around your room?
Don't forget that Brady has offered to form a study group. It's much easier to remember something if you have someone to study with.
If you are interested in forming a study/conversation group for this class, tell Brady. He has offered to organize one. Vielen Dank, Brady. Eine gute Idee!
Congratulations to Alvaro for being the first student to send me an E-mail about the "hidden" Bonus Point Challenge. Gayla, Geoff, Mario, and Scott also sent answers. Thanks for participating in the website! Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung means speed limit, Vorname means first name, and Nachname means last name.
