Frau Freud has probed the psyche of childhood and found more poems to aid in your recovery of the past. How many of you like to sing? Shall we venture into the melodic map of musical memory? I've been practicing my piano skills and singing some old favorites such as "Lili Marleen," "Du, du liegst mir im Herzen," and, of course, the national anthem.

Studenten und Studentinnen!
Kapitel Eins (Chapter One) begins with the Videothek (Video Lesson), which introduces you to the characters in the story. We will watch Folge Eins (Episode One) in class together; however, the following episodes will only be shown in the lab. It's important to make time to watch these because a lot of information and explanations in your textbook and workbook are based on these episodes.
Kapitel Eins also introduces two important verbs: haben und heißen (have and to be called). We've already practiced these verbs orally, and you've seen them written, so we will formalized the structure in this chapter.
The vocabulary is based on family members, descriptive adjectives, and the subject pronouns, so now we can expand our "memory recall" to include family structure and description. You can visit the American Association of Teachers of German website to practice the vocabulary. Play around with the exercises and see how you like it.
