GOALS OF THE COURSE
Practice in listening to, speaking, reading and writing German to help the student achieve a Novice Mid to Novice High level of proficiency in the language.
POLICIES
Attendance is essential if you hope
to keep up and not fall hopelessly behind. After six unexcused absences, I
reserve the right to drop your final grade average by five points for each
subsequent absence. If you simply stop coming to class, but do not drop the
class, then after twelve consecutive absences, I will drop you for
non-attendance and assign you a grade of ,,WF".
FINAL GRADE
The three unit tests will
count 10% each (30% total), the class participation evaluation
will count 10%, the listening exercise evaluations will count 10%,
the two oral interview tests will count 5% each (10% total), and
the final exam will count 40%.
SOUND MEDIA WORK (LAB OR HOME)
All students are expected to work with the textbook CD and
with the audio program in the language lab. The 10% sound media work evaluation
will be based on the completed exercises from the workbook writing sections and
from the textbook CD which you must turn in to the instructor at the end of
each chapter. All students who do their work in the language lab are expected
to maintain their attendance sheets in this book. See the lab director or one
of the student workers to get your sheet started.
SOME POINTS ON PREPARING EACH LESSON
Listen to the sounds and rhythms of the German on the videos and CD’s; just listen a few tirnes. Then, try repeating them yourself. Listen for general cornprehension of the German. Do not try to translate right offhand. Look up words at convenient breaks. Continuity of listening is important, especially the first time through.
!!COME SEE ME AS SOON AS A PROBLEM ARISES!! That’s why I have office hours.
