Welcome New Students.

We have three new students in Level Three ACS class: Tzveta, Daniel, and Mohammed. Welcome to UCA and IEP and Level Three!

What's Up This Week?

It's going to be another busy week as usual. We are beginning to "dig a little deeper" in our textbook. On Tuesday we will work on Task 5, The Children's Room. This is a personal narrative about a memorable folk object from the author's childhood. She describes the object and then tells how important it is to her children and why. Can you think of an object from your childhood that was special to you? I can. I had a favorite pillow that I slept with that my mother had made for me. I still have a tiny remnant of that soft little pillow.

We will also discuss how Extended Definitions are used to define a concept and how a student can look for these definitions to help understand a key term or complex idea.

On Wednesday, we will listen to the first academic lecture that relates to folk objects. I expect you to take notes on this short lecture and then answer some questions in class about it. We will also work on the newspaper definitions a little more.

On Thursday, you must hand in the permission information about your visits to the General Education classes. In addition, you will complete a personality inventory questionnaire. The answers help you see how to interact with people in the classroom. Several students answered these questions last year. It was very interesting because the answers were submitted to the Counseling Center and then we met with two counselors who explained how our answers could help us be better students and teachers.

Bonus Point Challenge Answers.

1. Attendance is mandatory in almost every class at the university.

Answer: True.

2. It is ok to be late to class at the university.

Answer:False. It is NOT ok to be late to class. Don't do this. It disrupts the class and disturbs your classmates and your professors.

3. Do not leave the classroom during the lecture.

Answer: True. You NEVER leave the classroom during the class period for the same reason as number two.

4. Most instructors collect homework at the beginning of class.

Answer: True. Professors expect students to have their homework ready to turn in at the beginning of class. Late homework is not collected or graded.

Asking Permission.

I realize that asking permission to visit a class may be stressful, so I have put an example of a conversation on the website. You can find it in the archives at the bottom of this page. Click on January 22, 2003, and you can find an example.
