To the Library
We Go.
On Wednesday, August 27, we will meet in the lobby of Torreyson Library so that you can learn how to use the BearCat system for finding reading and research material in the library. You will have a worksheet to complete about the system, and you will have the opportunity to find a novel to read for your novel project.
Surveys Have Arrived.
I have received everyone's survey, so I will respond to those as I get time. I have two computers on the UCA campus now, but only one mail account, so your messages may go to the computer in Irby or the computer in Harrin. In the afternoons, I work in the Advising Center in Harrin Hall, so it can get a little bit crazy having two offices.
Newspaper Assignment.
Tomorrow I will return your newspaper assignment. I was very pleased with your reading skills. The assignment was worth 25 points and the grades were quite good. The summaries ranged from concise (brief, short) to comprehensive (complex, detailed). Most of the mistakes in the summaries were discrete mistakes which include punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Global mistakes, the more serious type, were rare. These include incomplete sentences, run-on sentences, incorrect use of connecting words, and organization.
Some Good News.
I've decided to change the due date on the Reading Interest Questionnaire to
Friday, August 29. That gives you a couple of extra days to finish this assignment.
First Listening Assignment.
On Thursday, August 28, we will watch a video about the university system in the United States. I expect you to take notes on this video lecture because you will have a note-taking quiz a about the information next week. You will receive a handout before the video to show you an example of a page of notes from a lecture. I will also put a copy of the video lecture in the Language Lab so that you can watch it again if you have time.
