Planet IEP

To the Computer Lab
We Go.

On Tuesday, September 2, we will meet in the classroom and then go to the Computer Lab on the second floor of Irby, Room 213. We are going to explore the UCA website and complete a "WebQuest" to help you prepare for your class visitation project. For an overview of the project, visit the step-by-step guide for the Class Visitation Project.

Week Three.

The pace will pick up as we go into the third week of classes. On Wednesday, we will talk more about how to take notes in an academic lecture. I will give you a handout that has some important vocabulary related to university classes and an example of a page of notes from a university class. On Thursday, you will have a short note-taking quiz on the video lecture from last week. I will put the video in the Language Lab so that you can watch it again if you have the time. On Friday, we will begin our first lesson in the textbook, so I expect everyone to bring that book to class. If you do not have a book, please make arrangements with a classmate to copy the pages until you can purchase a book.

Newspaper Assignment.

We will use Thursday's Log Cabin Democrat for a vocabulary exercise to help you learn some of the common terms associated with a newspaper. On Friday, we will have a "friendly competition" to see who can complete a newspaper crossword puzzle the fastest.

Your First Bonus Point Challenge.

Send your answers to freddieb@mail.uca.edu by Tuesday, September 2, midnight, to earn some extra points. Clue: the answers are somewhere on the planet.

1. true false Attendance is mandatory in almost every class at the university.

2. true false It is ok to be late to class at the university.

3. true false Do not leave the classroom during the lecture.

4. true false Most instructors collect homework at the beginning of class.

What's the Mistake?

Your Error Correction Challenge from the newspaper assignment is now posted on the Learning Resources page. We will go over the answers in class on Wednesday. Bring your answers to class on a piece of notebook paper so that you can compare your answers to the correct ones.

What Are You Going to Read?

Don't forget that you must select a novel to read by Friday, September 5. Bring it to class so that I can make sure it is appropriate for the project.
