Tuesday, November 28, 2000Dear IEP Students,Hats off to Mrs. Bowles (and especially to behind-the-scenes-man Mr. Bowles) for developing this Planet IEP website! It is a great way to keep you all informed about what's going on, to provide extra resources for improving your English, and to supplement what you're doing in the classroom. Take advantage of it! The next two weeks are very important, so please make sure you know what is happening. Just to remind you.... Final exams will be Thursday, December 7, and Friday, December 8. A final exam schedule was handed out in your listening/speaking class. If you did not get it, please see your listening/speaking instructor. Pay close attention to the exam schedule because some of the times and rooms are different from your class times and rooms. The IEP end-of-semester reception will be Tuesday, December 12, at 1:00 p.m. in the Fireplace Room, which is in McCastlain Hall. At this time you will receive your semester grades and evaluations, certificates of attendance and merit (if you qualify for them), and information on how to register for Spring 2001. THIS RECEPTION IS VERY IMPORTANT. If you are finishing IEP this semester and you miss it, you will probably have to wait until January to register. Placement TestsIf you are an undergraduate student who finishes IEP this semester by completing Level 3 with all As and Bs, or by receiving 500 or more on TOEFL, you will take the transitional reading, writing, and math placement tests on Wednesday, December 13, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. After taking these tests, you will speak with an advisor and register for your spring classes. You can be advised and register on Wednesday afternoon or any time on Thursday (December 14) and Friday (December 15). Transitional Math TestsIf you are an undergraduate student who receives between 450 and 499 on TOEFL, you will be able to take the transitional math test on Wednesday, December 13, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. After taking the math test, you will speak with an advisor and register for your spring IEP classes plus your concurrent class(es). You can be advised and register on Wednesday afternoon or any time on Thursday (December 14) and Friday (December 15). Transfer students who have already taken university- level math courses do not have to take the math test or register for a math course. Post-baccalaureate students (who have already received an undergraduate degree and will be getting a graduate degree or a second undergraduate degree) only need to speak with advisors in their departments; they do not need to take any tests. Expect Some ChangesAnother important date will be Tuesday, December 5. On this day I will visit your classes to discuss some changes in IEP policies for next semester. Some of these changes are a direct result of the IEP Survey you filled out a few weeks ago. For example, we have worked hard to make the IEP class schedule more reasonable. Students will be in class all morning without any long breaks and may have one class in the afternoon. All classes will be in Irby, BBA, or Torreyson Library--no walking to Mashburn! The TOEFL Preparation Course will begin the first week of class, just like all the other classes. We will be offering a Computer Literacy workshop on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for students who would like to improve their computer skills. I appreciate the time you took to fill out the survey. The suggestions you made were very helpful to us. I am working hard to make changes that will benefit IEP students and strengthen our program. Please feel free to share with me your ideas and concerns about IEP and UCA. Drop by my office -- Irby 409 -- or e-mail me at lynnr@mail.uca.edu I will listen to you and do my best to help you!
