Tuesday, December 5, 2000Dear IEP Students,The purpose of this letter is to inform you about some IEP policy changes for next semester. These are the new policies: o Students will not be allowed to enroll in IEP after late registration. o Students who have more than 5 unexcused absences for a Monday/Wednesday/Friday class and 3 unexcused absences for a Tuesday/Thursday class will be dropped from that class with a WF grade. This means that if a student is only taking IEP classes (12 hours) and he/she is dropped from one class, he/she will only be enrolled in 9 hours and will be out of status with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). If a student is out of status with INS, it means that he/she is here in the United States illegally. He/she will need to work with Lisa Shoemake in the Office of International Programs to get back in status. He/she will not be allowed to work on campus while out of status. o Only students who are enrolled in UCA and are in good standing with INS will be allowed to take the Institutional TOEFL. This means that if a student is out of status, he/she will not be allowed to take the Institutional TOEFL. o If a student in Level 2 completes the semester with a 3.5 GPA (and no grade lower than a B) BUT does not have at least 450 on TOEFL, he/she will be allowed to take one concurrent course the next semester. The student will need to work with me to choose an appropriate course. o The optional TOEFL Preparation Course will begin the first week of classes just like other classes. It will be on Tuesday/Thursday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. This course will be included on your transcript but will carry no credit. o There will be an optional Computer Literacy/Research Methods workshop on Tuesday/Thursday afternoons for students who would like to increase their skills in using computers, the library, and other campus resources. If you have questions about these new policies, please do not hesitate to talk to me about them. We are working hard to make changes that will benefit all students and make the IEP a stronger program. Thank you for your input. Sincerely, Lynn Ramage Schaefer,Interim Coordinator, Drop by my office -- Irby 409 -- or e-mail me at lynnr@mail.uca.edu I will listen to you and do my best to help you! |
