Tuesday, January 30, 2001Dear Students,The first three weeks of classes have really flown by, and I'm happy to report that everything is going very well from your instructors' points of view. Classes are going well, with lots of participation and camaraderie. I hope you will all take the time to get to know your classmates. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about many other parts of the world, not just about the USA. Plans are underway for several IEP activities this semester. Parties, Picnics, and Field Trips!Coming up soon in February, the IEP will collaborate with the French and Spanish clubs, International Friends, and possibly a few other organizations for a Mardi Gras party and dance. In April, we will have an IEP field trip and picnic at the Little Rock Air Force Base, where we will take a tour of the base and have a picnic/cookout at Mrs. G's house. There will also be a picnic in April sponsored by IEP, French Club, Spanish Club, International Friends, and other organizations that serve international students. Your instructors have several other plans for class-related activities. And of course we will have a big party at the end of the semester to celebrate the coming of summer vacation and to say goodbye to those who'll be leaving IEP. IEP Classes in the Summer.Speaking of summer, I would like to remind you that there will be IEP classes in summer! Summer is a good time to take IEP — it is only 10 weeks long (compared to 16 weeks for fall and spring), classes are usually very small, and it is too hot to do anything else during Arkansas summers, so you might as well study! We have also chosen a date for the Institutional TOEFL — Monday, April 9, at 9:00 a.m. Your teachers will announce how to sign up and pay for the test soon. Please remember that there are no classes on Friday afternoon this week, starting at 1:00 p.m. (sorry, Level 3!). UCA administrators, faculty, and staff will be taking part in an open meeting that afternoon. Thank you for all your hard work during the last three weeks. Please continue to work hard, make friends, share your culture, and, most of all, speak English as much as possible! My door is open to you any time you have questions or concerns. Sincerely, Lynn Ramage SchaeferInterim Coordinator, Department of Foreign Languages |
