Bienvenus les étudiants!
J'adore mes etudiants! (It's no joke!) I have enjoyed teaching my two classes tremendously and it is only the second week. Thank you for your class participation and your enthusiasm in learning French.
Remember that patience is a necessity when you are learning a language. It takes time to perfect what you are learning — especially pronunciation.
Keep up the good work and don't forget to check Planète Française often for bonus points opportunities. (Some of them are purposely hidden from the 'normal eye,' so read deeply.)
Students are encouraged to visit Planète Française at least twice weekly for the latest, greatest information about your class. Updates or changes in the syllabus are posted on your class home page. You can read articles about interesting people and places. You can even earn Bonus Points by paticipating in web quizzes or other activities outlined on Planète Française!
Pay special attention to the Learning Resources pages. I will discuss aspects of French Grammar in more detail, help you learn interesting and useful words, and focus of the wonders and mysteries of one of Earth's truly great languages.
Now, let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Dr. Todd Alden Marshall. My students call me Dr. Marshall. This is my third year teaching at UCA. I have taught ESL (English as a Second Language), French, Spanish, and Russian at UCA. I have a degree in Slavic Linguistics from Cornell University. I have studied many interesting languages, including Swahili and Turkish. In fall 2004 I will be teaching Russian, Spanish, and French. I love languages and I love helping students to learn languages.
Please feel free to come to my office (Irby 415) before classes start to say 'hello' or ask me any questions that you may have. During the school year I will have office hours and I encourage all of my students to take advantage of the opportunity to come and see me whenever you feel you need help.
If you haven't yet, take a few minutes to browse Planète Française. It will help you succeed in your class if you become familiar with the resources available here.
I look forward to getting to know you all and helping you learn French!
A bientôt!
